Shouldn't Microsoft ousted by Apple by now?

Considering how Microsoft churns out buggy Window Vista, not mention inferior clone of Mac OSX Tiger, I am amazed how Microsoft is still in business and can stll keep ahead of Apple. Is the majority of consumers who uses Windows are really that daft? No offense to Window users. Since OSX is more superior than Vista, shouldn't the consumers know which OS is better and switch side? How long do you think that Apple will took over Microsoft in computer OS market ans that Microsoft would be extinct like a dinosaur? I assume Bill Gate is already sweating in panic.

I answer this as a Linux fan, so I understand your frustrations with Windows. However, the fact remains: the software that businesses want to run typically runs only on Windows. Let's start from the top: Active Directory. I'm not aware of any such robust product for Apple that will allow for:

1. Federated credentials so that I have the same username, password, and access on every single computer in the organization.
2. Automatic deployment of software to all computers or groups of computers.
3. Enforced security settings on all or groups of computers and users throughout the network.

What's the next thing that businesses get after Active Directory? Exchange Server. Sorry, but Entourage doesn't replace Outlook. For collaboration, meeting invitation and automatic scheduling, and robust calendar sharing, nothing beats Exchange/Outlook. There are competitors, but even among Domino/Notes and Novell's products, Mac support is limited at best.

Now let's talk about the specialty software. Take my organization for instance: The Superior Court of California. We have a program that allows a judge to input details about an upcoming case. The program then spits out what instructions the jury needs to be given at the start of the trial. You won't find software like that for Mac. Believe me, I've looked.

Finally, let's examine the home user. There are two categories here: adults and kids. Adults are already comfortable using Windows at work, so they naturally choose Windows for home. Kids want to play games. Some games come out for Mac but ALL GAMES come out for Windows.
