My AirPort keeps turning off?

Recently, the AirPort on my computer (a white two year old MacBook 13 inch) has decided to turn itself off once every few minutes. When I click 'Turn AirPort On' it just ignores me and stays off. I have to restart every time to get it turned on again.

I recently updated to 10.5.8, but I can't pinpoint whether that has anything to do with it.

Why is it doing this and how can I stop it?

You probably need to reinstall AirPort. You will need to know the name of your network and have an Ethernet cable connection. (The Ethernet cable can be to a different network so long as your wireless network is in range.)

Here's how to reinstall AirPort:

1. Connect directly to your network using an Ethernet cable.
2. Go to System Preferences - select Network
3. Select AirPort and use the gear dropdown menu to choose Make Service Inactive.
4. Hit the plus and add a new AirPort service (give it a new name that's unique).
5. In the Advanced tab add the name of the wireless network you wish to join.
6. Hit Apply.
7. After a few moments, the new service will find your network.
8. Delete the "original" AirPort service and rename the new one AirPort.
