Why won't my mac play or accept a German CD?

I got a German CD with 3 Videos and 11 songs on it (form a German band) and when I put it in the computer it makes a few noises, sounds like it is spinning it around and then puts it back out again with no activity in iTunes... I payed a lot for the CD because it is no longer manufactured so I really want to get it on my iTunes but why won't it work and how do I fix it?

I have a White Macbook from late 2007 if that helps... Version 10.5.7. I got it in the UK but judging by the keyboard layout it is american.

OKAY, SO... How do I get it to work...?

Perhaps the CD is copy-protected to prevent it being used on a computer - record companies were that greedy and stupid up to a few years ago. Or it might be damaged, or a fake that hasn't been blown properly. Too bad if so.
