How to reset a Mac? Please Help ?

I've been a Mac user for a few years now and I know my around them for the most part. I seem to have a problem.
Long story short, I used to have a MacBook, it broke, so I bought a cheap replacement.
I have installation CD's from my iMac, however, they don't work on the MacBook because of different the drivers and such.
My problem is, I don't have installation CD's for the MacBook, right now it has version 10.5.4 - I tried using a friend of mines CD (She has the same MacBook), however, I would get a message saying, "MAC OS X cannot be installed on this computer. This software cannot be installed on this computer" - and it was version 10.5.4. Right now I have partitioned the drivers, hoping that I could install the software on the new drive, being nothing is on there, but I can't seem to figure out how to set up the new drive as the start up drive or if that would even work? I just really want to start this computer over, have a clean slate. Does anyone have ANY suggestions?

I would just buy a copy of the full version of OS X Snow Leopard or Leopard. I think that would probably be the best way to go about it. If you are going to get snow leopard, make sure you have an intel processor. you can find this by clicking the apple menu and choosing about this mac. Snow Leopard will work only on Intel machines. Leopard will work on both PowerPC and Intel models.
