Should I buy a mac / macbook pro now or wait?

I am thinking of buying a macbook pro. i have had this in mind for some time. but i am worried that some software (especially burning software) will not work. also, there are so many programs to clear cookies / internet junk and i have never found one for mac. registry cleaners are hard to find as well for the mac. and yes, i like to keep my computer clean.

i desperately need a new laptop as my old one's screen is broken. idk if i should wait till the summer though when that college offer or other offers open. i am most likely getting the pro. is now a good time to buy one? when do u think they will update them?

another quick thing - i am not too crazy bout the new mac pro design. it looks kinda PCish. i always preferred the silver / aluminiun old model.. think it'll come back?

Cookies are cleared using your browser, and there are several excellent ones for Macs. As for programs to clear internet junk, the fact you're having trouble finding any should tell you something: You don't need them on a Mac. And there's no registry in OSX.

As someone else noted, viruses that target Macs have been virtually non-existent. The only good reasons to bother having an anti-virus program on a Mac are: (1) if you run Windows on it, in which case all the Windows anti-virus programs will work fine; (2) to protect your Windows-using friends if you make a habit of forwarding junk email to them. It's also true, as I believe the same person noted, that OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is due soon. 1st quarter of 2009 is the latest word. It's up to you whether that's reason enough to wait.

Otherwise, the only reason you might hold off is if you're looking at the 17" MacBook Pro. It didn't get all the improvements the 15" did in the last round, but probably will next time, whenever that may be. On the other hand, it's still available with a matte screen if you prefer -- the 15" is glossy-only now.

If you're hoping *any* styling Apple's discarded will "come back," you're apt to be disappointed. I can't think of any cases where they've done this in the past.

As for the availability of crackware, which someone raised -- well, if you're the sort of person who cares about such things, you can continue on with it by running Windows, using Apple's (free) Boot Camp or other programs that support dual/multi-boot systems on Macs.
