My Mini DVI to HDMI to HDTV doesnt work, what shouldi do to make it work?

I have a mini dvi to hdmi adapter coming out of my mini dvi port on my macbook, connected to that is an hdmi cable connected to my hdmi port in the back of the tv, i put the tv to the hdmi input and nothing happens, it just says no signal, i go into the systems settings and try all different types of resolution, but none of them work, what do i do? i have a samsung 720p 22" hdtv

Lets just run through the trouble shooting list...

(1) Leave all the cables hooked up and reboot the computer.

(2) Do a software update, just incase anything relevant has been updated. And reboot if you install anything new.

(3) When you go to the Display settings, does the MacBook even see the other monitor? Changing the resolutions on your MacBook might not do the trick if mirroring is turned off and it sees the TV as a separate option.

Look for a "Gather Displays" button. If you see that, hit it and the TV's resolution settings should now show up on your MacBook. Then that's what you need to play around with resolution wise.

(4) Got a friend or neighbour with and HDTV that you can test the connection out on? See if maybe there is an issue with the cables/adapter.

(5) You're 100% sure your laptop uses the Mini DVI port and not the Mini Display Port? The MacBook (up until the recent release), was Mini DVI, but the MacBook Pros were Mini Display Port (and some people shorthand the MacBook Pro as just MacBook).

(6) Do you have more than one HDMI port on the TV? If so, have you tried plugging it in to the other ports?

(7) And just have to ask, you're certain you've set the TV to look at the right input when you've plugged in the laptop? You're not plugged into HDMI 1 but set the TV to HDMI 2, or something like that? I don't expect that is the problem, but have to ask just incase.
