camera and mac question.....?

i just bought a new camera and i have a mac. Im trying to get really organized and just have one photo library...which is the IPHOTO that came with the macbook....

my question is...can i just plug in my new camera and will the photos store to iphoto???

OR

do i still have to install the software included in the camera. to my macbook and download the photos????
(i personally don't want this, because im trying to just use iphoto library for all photos of mine)

iPhoto can and will download pix from any and every camera you connect to your mac.

DO NOT install included software!

You may want to upgrade to iLife '08 ... it has a nicer version of iPhoto
