Connecting a Mixer to a USB Audio Interface to a Computer: What cables, and how to connect!?

I have a Tapco mixer hooked up to a Lexicon Alpha Desktop Recording Studio. My rig basically starts at the Mixer, which I am trying to connect with RCA Cables to the Lexicon Audio Interface. I am using the line in RCA Jacks on the mixer, and the line out inputs on the audio interface. I have that interface connected to my MacBook Pro via USB 2.0 cables. I can get audio to work on the mixer (I can see the volume go up on the mixer's meters) but I cannot get the sound to be successfully recorded on my computer. My computer recognizes the audio interface, too, it is set to record using that interface but it's like the interface doesn't receive the signal from my mixer. So, am I using the wrong cables or what? Thanks!

Hook the RCA cables to an audio adapter, which connects to your sound card.

Of course if you have no audio card, this will not work.
