Macbook edge cracks??? (And other issues)?

I have a total of four cracks on my Macbook. (Where the magnets touch) My warranty has expired, so I"m not sure what to do. I made an appointment with Apple for today, but will they be any help? Also, I'm going in to tell them about screen-flickering problems (When I adjust the screen down, if that makes sense, my screen turns black) :l So, should I still go to Apple about these two issues or not? Will they charge me a butt load of money to repair the two?
I just read an article/their comments.. Is this 'free repair' thing not true?

Apple doesn't cover Cosmetic damage (because it's brought on by the user) in their warranties anyways...
