Can I tether a Blackberry Tour with my Macbook Pro for free?

I have Verizon Wireless as my provider. They try to charge an additional $15 a month for tethering capability. I already pay $30 / month for unlimited data.

I heard you can tether for free...Is this possible? If so, how? Thank you.

You pay $30 for unlimited data for the applications *on the phone*. It does not cover using your phone as a modem. Your contract specifically says that. For the privilege of using the phone as a modem, Verizon charges $15...in part to cover the extra stress you will put on their network with your computer (since computer applications are far chattier than the phone apps).

When you connect to a tower, you share the bandwidth available at the tower with every other customer attached to that tower. If you attach your computer, you use up more bandwidth. To compensate, Verizon will add bandwidth, towers or even frequency specturm in the area. That costs money. So they charge you more.

Why is it that you feel you're entitled to steal services from Verizon just because you pay them for a similar (but not actually the same) service?
