Installing Ubuntu 9.10 on iMac G3 possible?

I have an old lime green iMac G3 and Mac (office) G3 but I do not use it anymore because my Macbook I do not want to discard. Recently I discovered that it can support Ubuntu Linux 9.10 (the latest), but I do not know if it is compatible bcuz all I saw were old posts dating 2007 (probably Ubuntu 7 or 8 versions. And if you can direct me to a site or a copy on the way to install! Thanks!

the Apple and Linux operating systems (Any distribution) are all variants of the UNIX operating system. Therefore, it is logical to conclude that almost any Mac running any version of Linux. The problem is September how does it take to get everything working right? What I mean is ... I am 100% sure you can get Ubuntu 9.1 to run on the G3 more ... Not I am sure how long it will be all set. I would have at least a little surprised that the installation goes wrong, however. Recent distributions Linux seems to be "difficult" about the hardware that most distributions I've played around with. As for installing Linux on a G3 goes, I probably try various distributions Ubuntu ... 9.1 would be a good place to start. The others could try it Slax, Debian, Mandriva or?? Probably the best thing to do would be to boot the LiveCD to try. But http://www.livecdlist.com/ These are the older systems, I guess I do not have data on disks that could not afford to lose. It can only go for it, provided they have supported food on hand. If it were me, I'd probably just throw caution and go straight for a full installation of Linux Mint 8 fluxbox. But I'm bad like that. Seriously, I suggest you just try. Unless the material is totally incompatible (which not likely), will probably work. You have nothing to really "lose" by trying. Go ahead.
